And so to Lands End from Hayle

A night in The Premier Inn was as expected but due to our relatively late arrival we couldn't get a taxi or bus into the city centre to experiance the hedonistic delights of Hayle on a Saturday night. We made an attempt at an early start hoping to find somewhere to have breakfast overlooking the beach. Our search just ended up riding around the development sites of Hayle before heading off towards St Ives and trying to avoid the busy roads and make our way to join the B3306 coast road to St Just. This was another switch back of a road with challenging climbs. Being Sunday there was quite a few cyclists out as well as by midday the Sunday lunch and go for a drive demographic in their cars. The views out across the cliffs to the Atlantic were brilliant as it was a perfect warm early July day. We stopped at the Gurnards Head Zennor for a brunch of pints of orange and lemonade with peanuts! Brigitte was amused when an 84 year old man on seeing her Claude Butler velocoped, which she had liberated from my garage, told her that he didn't realise Claude Butler still made bikes and he had one back in the day when they were cutting edge. Having refueled it was onwards and with a few navigational errors made it to Lands End. To meet us Liz had driven down from Taunton with Gordon Kemp a fellow traveller on previous adventures.Liz had made a cake and brought some Prosecco , however we first had to tke the obligatory pictures and sign the LEJOG / JOGLE book and then on a sunny Sunday afternoon when it was so clear you could see the Isles of Scily, we sat on the clff tops and did justice to the bottle of Proseco and the cake. It was then just load the bike onto the car rack and return to Taunton.
