Crawford to Ecclefechan

I left Holmdale B&B in Crawford thinking I had got a bargain having forgotten I had paid a deposit. My Co guests at breakfast were on their way to the Orkneys and as we compared notes they told me their son had done the JOGLE walking in 59 days andmai ly wild camping on the way. This was when he was 18 before going to Uni where he is now at Falmouth. Today's ride was an easier section only 38 miles and a lot of it seemed Down Hill. I had done 30 miles in just over 2 hours so was able to have a prolonged coffee break in Lockerbie. The little town gained notoriety in 1988 when probably one of Gaddafi's chums ma aged to foul up blowing the plane up mistimed the destinations that it happened o erland and thus including people from Lockerbie as well as all the passengers on the plane. Lockerbie is now a quiet South Lanarkshire town ith a very nice coffee bar. It once basted the largest lamb market in Scotland. I was my usual ta tactfull self discussing this with a couple of not so young Austraians quoting Dame Edna Everidge that New Zealand had 35 million sheep and 3 million were almost human. My new aquitaine then told me that she had lived in New Zealand when she was young but saved the day by saying she had been born in Alloa and had just visited there to look for family roots. They not live in Melbourne and this wAa UK visit that had been postponed for 2 years. Lockerbie for whatever seems to be a cyclists mechanism there was one group of them o expensive looking road bikes training or racing on circuit as they passed the coffee shop every 20 minutes or so. Then onto Ecclefechan the place to be on a Saturday night. The Ecclefechan Hotel although giving the outward appearance ce of being shut is pretty busy a d has obviously undergo e some fairly recent refurbishment.
